An analysis of overnight prices in three-star hotels carried out by online reservation service hotel.info finds that Moscow is the most expensive city in the world to rent a room.

The average overnight stay there costs £125 ($248), while New York comes in a close second with a rate of £122, followed by Chicago on £99.

Hotels in Tokyo and Sydney average around £70 per night, while Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm and Helsinki in Scandinavia are all amongst the ten most expensive hotel cities, with the last three places taken by Zurich, Paris and London.

Birmingham somehow did not qualify for that list, but it comes top of a comparison of hotel prices in British cities, beating London by a pound.

Hotel.info compiled these results from all bookings made in the first quarter of 2008 by customers of hotel.de and TravelRes in the three-star category.
