Travelport carbon tracker

Travelport has introduced a post-booking reporting tool to help companies and travel agencies measure the CO2 emissions of travel programmes.

Carbon Tracker’s calculator uses operational data and a range of key variables to deliver sophisticated emissions analysis, rapidly calculating and comparing how green an itinerary is - even across multiple modes of travel (air, rail and car).

It uses compliance reporting standards from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and Greenhouse Gas Protocol – which is in partnership with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, and one of the most widely used international accounting tools.

“At the core of all ‘carbon-mindful’ initiatives is the measurement of carbon emissions, yet carbon measurement itself is a relatively new and emerging science,” said Travelport president and CEO Jeff Clarke. “Research is still needed to improve on the accuracy of data gathering, calculation and reporting solutions.

“Our aims in launching this tool are to give the industry access to the latest and most improved ways of measuring emissions for business intelligence; to encourage debate and collaboration in terms of emissions benchmarking; and to enable corporations to make informed decisions for sustainable travel as part of their overall travel policies.”
