Another week, another set of mergers

I'd be interested in hearing what people think about the wave of consolidation taking place in the TMCTravel Management Company: An agency which manages business travel for a company. sector. Of course it's not restricted to this sector, as we can see with the airlines (IAGInternational Airlines Group - the parent company of British Airways and Spain's Iberia which was created by the merger of the two carriers in 2010 and BMI being the latest example), but looking at these recent news pieces.

Altour acquires UK TMC

Statesman Travel acquires rival TMC

Baxter Hoare acquires Pressplan

It's clear there is change afoot - a good thing, a bad thing, or just a.... thing....

I heard a global TMCTravel Management Company: An agency which manages business travel for a company. was looking to expand further into the UK... But don't the big boys have enough market share already? For SMEs I think a smaller TMC still offers better value for money.

I tried a TMC for my company's travel arrangements for a while, but soon found that they were failing to offer us the best routes, timings or prices. They just regurgitated whatever legacy option came up first on their screen. The main problem was lack of education or understanding of our itineraries. We now do it ourselves (saving money), and sell that expertise on to other SMEs (making money). Double result.
