TMC teams up with Tata
Business travel management specialist Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT) is set to start offering access to virtual meetings technology, from 2010.
It has teamed up with Tata Communications to launch CWT Telepresence, which will give its clients access to the IT company's public network of Cisco Telepresence Suites.
The Cisco Telepresence technology allows small groups to hold a virtual meeting in multiple locations worldwide, using high-definition video and real-time audio.
It is equipped with life-size images and immersive technology, so participants have the experience of sitting opposite one another in the same room, even if they are on opposite sides of the globe.
CWT Telepresence will also offer advice on when a virtual meeting is suitable for a business, as opposed to a face to face meeting.
It will also manage the reservations process for Tata Communications' telepresence rooms and report on adoption by staff members and cost savings made.
The pilot phase of the service is already under way and full roll-out is planned for next year.
Pauline Quéré, CWT's vp for customer product marketing, said: "CWT recognises the intense pressure corporations are under to contain rising travel and entertainment costs and maximise return on investment.
"By incorporating telepresence into the full range of products and services in our demand management offering, CWT provides a compelling alternative and solidifies its role as a key partner in helping clients demonstrate measurable return on investment."
"Aligning the underlying drivers of demand for travel with business objectives means travelling smarter, not necessarily travelling less," said the TMC.
"CWT offers to help companies effectively balance business travel with business needs and control costs."
John Landau, senior vp of global managed services for Tata Communications, said: "We are excited to be working with Carlson Wagonlit Travel and look forward to helping them add a new dimension to their clients' managed travel programmes."
