Galileo Polska snapped up

Travelport has expanded its operations in Poland by buying a distribution system Galileo Polska.

The move follows the recent signing of customer agreements with two Polish travel businesses Sigma and Air Tours Cracow.

The purchase was made from Galileo Distribution System Ltd which also owns and runs Galileo GDS distribution businesses in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.

It said the Galileo business was its second direct operation in the eastern European country where it has run a direct Worldspan operation for 15 years.

Travelport said Marcin Pilarski, who was appointed earlier this year as its head of north eastern Europe, will run the two direct operations from Warsaw.

While the team, including former employees from Galileo Polska, will be combined, Travelport said and clients could still choose between Galileo and Worldspan as their GDS.

Niklas Andréen,Travelport GDS's managing director for Eastern Europe, said: "This acquisition is further evidence of our commitment to the Polish travel trade and further enhances Warsaw as the hub of our Northern European operations.

"We are now better placed than ever to support the evolving needs of our customers in this region and will be able to offer our customers the best tools and solutions available from the combined Galileo and Worldspan product portfolio."
