Business Travel and Meetings Show, Finnair and Marriott International

 

Deadline set for BTMS Innovation Awards

 

The Business Travel and Meetings Show (BTMS) has set a deadline of November 27 for entries to its annual Innovation Awards.

The awards, open to suppliers, are split into seven categories:  transport; accommodation; traveller support services; technology for travel and meetings; business travel management and other intermediaries; meetings management and other meeting intermediaries and corporate social responsibility (CSR).  

A short list will be drawn up by a panel of industry experts which industry people can then vote on.

The winners will be announced at BTMS at Earl's Court, London on February 10.

Finnair pilots strike

 

FinnairFinnair cancelled its scheduled flights on Monday (November 16) and today (November 17) after its pilots went on strike.

The Finnish national carriers said 400 services were hit, affecting 32,000 customers.

It recommended that passengers postpone journeys until the strike is over.

Marriott to open five new hotels in MEA

 

Marriott International has signed contracts to open five hotels in its newly established <idle East and Africa region.

Among the new properties are Marriott's first hotel in Algeria, where two will be opened, Ghana and Morocco. The other one is in Egypt.

The two in Algeria will be a 227-room Marriott and a 180-unit Executive Apartments, both in Algiers and both due to open in 2012.

The 209-room Accra Marriott, near Kotoka Airport, will be the chain's first property in sub-Saharan Africa and is due to open in 2010.

The Moroccan property, a 216-room hotel in Marrakech, is expected to open in 2012.

The new properties will add 1,126 rooms to Marriott's portfolio of 44 properties in the MEA  region.
