Travel outlook improves

Travel spend per person will increase by £669 this year, according to a new study.

The research, carried out by the Centre for Economics and Business Research and commissioned by the the Kelkoo Travel Index, shows travel spend is likely to reach £41.1 billion in 2010.

The figure represents an increase of £1 billion on the amount spent on travel in 2009.

According to the study, travel spend fell by 8.4% in 2009, compared to pre-recession 2008, but online travel bookings rose by 18.5% between 2008 and 2009.

An estimated £17.6 billion will be spent online on travel this year, a 13% rise on last year and equivalent to 42.8% of all UK travel spend.
