Gulf Air's Andre Dose has resigned from his position as president and CEO after serving the company for a mere four months.

Despite his plans to reinstate Gulf Air as one of the world's leading airlines when he was appointed CEO in January this year, he has now stepped down from the position which he took up on 2 April.

In a statement released by the Board, Gulf Air claimed the decision to be ”mutual,” adding: ”The Board thanked Dose for his assistance to the company during his employment period and wished him every success in his future plans.”

The search for a new president and CEO is ongoing.

Gulf Air is headquartered in Bahrain and has been established for some 60 years. However, the airline has suffered in recent years due to competition from other carriers in the region, namely Qatar, Emirates and Etihad - the latter”s CEO James Hogan having left the same position at Gulf Air last year.

Gulf Air losses are said to be running at US$1m (£485,000) per day, with drastic measures needed for it to have a future. It presently employs around 6,000 staff and has a fleet of 30 aircraft including ten Airbus A320 and nine Airbus A340.
