Iberia traffic slumps

7% fall in December

Iberia reported a 7% drop in traffic for December compared with the same month in 2007.

The Spanish carrier said it capacity for the month was down 5.7% and the load factor dipped by 1.1% to 76%.

The airline reported that a 7.4% drop in capacity on European short haul flights led to a 2.9% rise in the load factor to 66.2% although traffic slipped by 3.2%.

There was a slight drop of 0.9% in passengers on its South Atlantic routes with the load factor falling by 2% to 83.5% and capacity by 0.8%.

On routes to the North Atlantic, capacity and traffic were down, respectively, by 1.7% and 0.9% while the load factor was 78.6%.
