Alitalia names new UK country manager

Italian airline Alitalia has appointed Maria Sacconi as the new country manager for the United Kingdom, Ireland, Scandinavia and the Baltics.

In her new role, Ms Sacconi will be based in London and replaces Maurizio Dello Monaco, who has been posted to Greece. She covered the role of UK general manager six years ago, but has most recently worked as area manager for central Italy.

Ms Sacconi commented that despite having been based in the UK previously, the job will bring new challenges, "due to the difficult economic climate and its impact on the aviation industry".

"Nevertheless, Alitalia stands out on the international scenario," she said, "for the major renewal of its fleet and the company's commitment to provide excellent ground and onboard services."
