Air Malta and Swiss International Air Lines have signed an agreement by which SWISS will codeshare on Air Malta's flights between Malta and Zurich.
This agreement also sees Air Malta stepping up its operation to this important hub airport from five weekly frequencies to a daily flight starting from Sunday 29th March 2009. Through this agreement, SWISS will be using its own code and flight numbers on all Malta-Zurich-Malta flights operated by Air Malta. The flights are timed so as to offer good connections to/from various destinations in SWISS's network beyond Zurich. The agreement is expected to generate additional tourists from Switzerland and other markets due to the increased marketing of SWISS and Air Malta. Commenting on this agreement Dr Brock Friesen, Air Malta's Chief Officer Commercial, said, "Air Malta is continuing to expand its list of premium partners whereby over 60% of the airline's flights are currently codeshared. These agreements are increasing Air Malta's marketing reach and providing additional connectivity and tourism opportunities to Malta. It is estimated that the increase in seat capacity will be generating an additional 10,000 visitors to the islands. "Both Air Malta and SWISS enjoy an excellent reputation and are committed to provide their customers with superior service and enhanced levels of customer satisfaction", commented Dr Friesen. The cooperation between Air Malta and SWISS already extends to their respective frequent flyer programmes whereby members of Air Malta's Flypass programme earn miles when flying on SWISS and members of SWISS's Miles & More programme earn miles when flying on Air Malta flights. SWISS is a Star Alliance Member. Air Malta and SWISS are members of IATA - the International Air Transport Association and AEA - the Association of European Airlines.
