Ex-Silverjet executive appointed sales director for bmi
Bmi has announced that current interim marketing director Katherine Gershon is to fill an expanded permanent position.
As sales and marketing director, Ms Gershon's responsibilities will include worldwide marketing, online sales, loyalty, online sales, e-commerce and UK sales.
Ms Gershon will report to mainline managing director Peter Spencer, and will be joined by Tamarah Khatib as the head of online.

New sales director for BCD
Industry veteran Tony McGetrick has been appointed as the new director of sales UK and Irteland for BCD Travel.
Mr McGetrick, who will be based in London, joins from Expedia Corporate Travel where he was also director of sales.
In a career of more than 35 years in the industry, Mr McGetrick has also worked for the then BTI UK (now HRG) as general manager and director of sales.

BA sacks two after T5 fiasco
BA has sacked two senior executives after the opening of its flagship Terminal Five at Heathrow turned into a shambles.Gareth Kirkwood, director of operations, and David Noyes, director for customer services, were both appointed to their positions when Willie Walsh took over as ceo two years ago.They were members of the airline's management team and had both worked for BA for more than 20 years.
BA said it now planned to appoint a chief operations director who would carry out both roles.

bmi hires Webster
Ray Webster, former ceo of low cost carrier easyJet, has been hired by bmi as a consultant.
He will advise the airline on strategy for its loss-making no frills carrier bmibaby.
Mr Webster left easyJet in2005 after ten years with the airline.
Bmibaby was launched in 2002 and is a significant part of bmi's operation.

CWT reports 45% growth in sales
Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT) said its sales volume rose by 45% to $11.bn in the first six months of 2007.
The TMC, the second largest in the world, said that new business during the year exceeded $2.2bn.
Carlson said the biggest regional increase was in the US where volume grew by 104%, following the acquisition of Navigant.
But there was 86% growth in Australia, 33% in the UK, 31% in India, 29% in Russia and 25% in China.

Ryanair to appeal against take over decision
Irish low cost carrier Ryanair is to appeal against the EC decision to block its take over of rival Aer Lingus.
It described the decision as "unlawful and politically motivated" and said it had lodged its appeal with the European Court of First Instance.
Ryanair, which now has a stake of 29.4% in its rival, bid €2.80 per share for Aer Lingus.
It said shares had since fallen to €2.50.
